Day #25:
I finally manned up and just rocked out today and finished nanowrimo! Feels good, was a huge responsibility. I am actually probably going to spend the next year writing most of the detailed complete first draft as I think this would make a great series. So nanowrimo lives on for me for another six months at least! I could have finished as I said on the last blog last week, but I hit the wall, HARD. I sometimes, without direct competition, tend to lose motivation when I am on the cusp of victory, this was another positive step as well, just finishing it. I spend the last 4-5 days building up to do it. Yesterday I did a little like 700-800 words and then I got up today took a break did some meditation and banged it out about 5200 word which is my highest for the month. Although I will add that the health food snacks definitely help when I am writing. can’t wait till next year. I see some people actually have done full novels in their time would like to try that next year, shouldn’t be too bad. Final stats are 70 and a half pages and 50,466 words. It is a great place to start for all aspiring writers, next month is editing might just go with the flow on that to learn the ropes and then get back to full on writing in Jan ’10.

Nanowrimo ’09: Mission Accomplished!!
Day 17, 18 & 19: Nanowrimo ‘09

Day #17:
Sputtered a bit today, kinda getting a bit of drag on the end here because I am still thinking 50k words is all I need. I put off things a lot today and then decided to write a couple paragraphs, you know just for the kids, that turned into a couple pages, so no complaints there. I think the story might be getting typed up till 2010 and that’s still BEFORE I rewrite it after I make the right edits to it. I am not worried I think this has potential to be a great story and possibly a classic sci-fi novel, in my mind at least it does if I execute it right. Last thing I need is another malnourished novel notch around my belt. HOWEVER I am not going to eat the icing and throw away the cake I am grateful when I do complete the challenge I have made a great accomplishment and see it for the level up I needed! Anyways I knocked out 1,500 words today and got so depressed that I would hit 50k I just chilled to savor the moment for now no need to press too hard today though tomorrow and the day after it is tempting to just knock out the word count for goal setting sake and get it over with. But that may cost me energy in finishing the novel or having the motivation to do a proper outline and story board to make it what it has the potential to be. Yet, that’s not a bad problem to have imo.

Day #18:
Oops I didn’t it a-gain!
Day #19:
Today was a bit tough, did a bunch of words to make up for yesterdays dropping of the ball. I am at 44k and could wrap it up tomorrow with a tow session day which I am tempted to do just to get it over with. I love you Nanowrimo but you’re hard to live with. Anyways the story isn’t even 1/3 way done I will see how many more days it will take to finish it after November is over and then put up an update when the story gets finished just for Nanowrimo sake… either way this is the penultimate entry (sorry I don’t get to use that word enough, couldn’t pass it up especially under the circumstances) next one I’ll be poppin Nanowrimo bottles yeah baby yeah!
Day 15 & 16: Nanowrimo ‘09
Now that’s multitasking!
Day #15:
Decent day got a couple more off shoots to work out think I want to do an outline asap! Actually had one of the biggest days word count wise (Did 3,100 now up to a bit over 35k for the month) after a slow start and planning to do only an hour or so of writing. Starting to feel more and more like a job or career now which is hella dope. Anyways I think I am going to do it until I got the basic draft out and then I am going to take a predetermined amount of time off like two weeks or so, and then revisit it maybe print it out and then rewrite it all to get the real working copy done and then take more time and so forth if I get lucky I might be able to develop a system and get this thing rolling *knock wood* (yeah I do that kind of thing) Anyways it is decided that when you got a lot of things to write about this is easy as pie but when you are stumbling in the dark it is such a nightmare that it makes waterboarding look as scary as a bubbler (yeah I say things like bubbler too…sometimes…when water fountain would seem cacophonic [sic])

Day#16:
Good day today listened to Danger Mouse and Sparklehorse
This one is a good one but the tastes on the album are really gonna get you if you like diverse music, a bit of everything but well produced and written!
which was surprisingly dope. Was easy to do the writing today took some time to think of the story though. I have a new arc that developed but didn’t realize it until now which is a day or so away from completion. Doesn’t look like this will get done until well into December which I can live with I guess. I did about 2,700 words today and that puts me bit over 38k words right now, so looks like a have a bit under a week, i might just push through Thursday or Friday and hit the 50k then take a couple days off to rewire my brain and jump back in and finish the Novel.

Day 13 & 14: Nanowrimo ’09

Day #13:
Today was crazy, I really had to pull it together to make it happen for me and waited till 12:30 to get started. It wasn’t the story or anything I think it was just my old habits dying, now I am slowly attuning my biorhythms to included a good two hour session of writing everyday (except Sunday think I might keep that down to one hour) This is one of the biggest reasons for me doing Nanowrimo not so much the book writing though that is a great motivator but the self discipline and daily grind is also something that I think will pay huge dividends for me in the future and not just with the writing part of my life either. I actually love it when I finish everyday it is a nice rush but the force of procrastination very strong with Young Muses, it is still. Okay Yoda jokes are usually the cue to leave, but I still have a lot to go don’t want to jinx it or get over confident so Nanowrimo Gods don’t forsake me I still need you!
-M.M.
p.s. Miles Davis “Birth of The Cool” (that’s right, no link – I’m beat) accompanied me for the two hours along with Little Dragon’s self titled debut I believe. Think I’ll use them a couple more times next week then try out some others. Both were surprisingly DOPE to type to. Word count today was about 2300 in two hours and the total right now is a hair under 30k and I am about 60% there
Day 14:
Today rather sucked. My story is falling apart a bit and i am just writing down possible scenarios at this point. I am not coming to grips with the fact that editiing and rewriting may be twice as hard as writing the ideas down in the first place. Which is cool. Maybe. I took a really long time trying to tie some old ideas in and it is possible I may be writing longer than the 30 day deadline, but shouldn’t be a problem dropping the 50k word count. Week two is one of the hardest and I am at a healthy 32k.
Day 11 & 12: Nanowrimo ‘09

Day #11: Wow did a little more than 3,100 words today and very quickly. I am just past the halfway point today which i think is on course with where I would have been if I didn’t skip any days I think. I don’t know how this happened I guess it is just the power of Nanowrimo lol. Can’t wait till I get my life back though, this is a tough challenge. -M.M.
Day #11: Had fun today! Just bombed out another 2500 or so words felt good, only thing is this story is somewhat epic, but that may be one of those good problems. -M.M.
Day 8, 9 & 10: Nanowrimo ‘09

Day #8: Did a half-ish day today as I went too long last night and stayed up till 4 am finishing other errands and commitments!! Got 1566 words done in a bout an hour and a half or so up to 18k!
-M.M.
Day #9: Oops!
Day #10: Since I missed yesterday and did half my amount the day before that I tried to fix that by doing more today which mounted to about 3100 words. I am going to try to do a couple sessions tomorrow of 1500 words to keep myself in the hunt and possibly catch up by Friday if I hit a groove. I am really glad I stepped up today with an extra page or so worth of writing. Taking it seriously now!….Again.
-M.M.
p.s. Counter is having problems but I am at 21.8k words almost 44% done!
